Parent & Student Handbook

JUNIOR SCHOOL – PREP – Year 6

The purpose of Prep is to prepare the children for Kindergarten. The children are introduced to all the Key Learning Areas covered in K – 6 but the activities are age appropriate. The children acquire the skills needed for writing and also basic mathematical concepts. They learn to listen, follow directions, and work as a group and to socialise with others. They learn through play, language activities as well as more formal activities. They learn basic sounds and sight words when they are ready. The program gradually becomes more challenging as the year progresses.

All students are engaged in learning in each of the Key Learning Areas each year. These are:

English

Mathematics

Science and Technology

Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE)

Creative Arts (incl. Music and Art)

In addition, all students participate in a public speaking program and lessons on child protection. All Junior School students participate in a physical activity program run by specialist staff and students from Year 3 participate in a structured sporting program on Tuesday afternoons. All students from Prep to Year 6 participate in a fortnightly Assembly to which parents are invited to attend, especially when their sons/daughters are receiving an award or presenting items.
