EXPLANATION FOR STUDENT ABSENCES 

In the case of any absence, parents will receive a text from the College before midday, followed by an email at the end of the day.

Parents are expected to verify each absence. Explanations for student absences can be recorded through the Parent Portal or the College App. Notations in the student diary are not sufficient.

The College is required by the Education Act to collect an explanation for student absences within seven days.

If there is no explanation provided within seven days the absence will be recorded as unexplained on your child’s College records.

The number of days absent is recorded on a student’s report each semester. Late arrival and partial absences are also recorded on the student’s report. An excessive number of days missed can compromise a student’s progression to the next year or the award of a Higher School Certificate.

If you are having difficulty with the Parent Portal and the College App, you should contact the Office by phone or via another child in the family when a student is unable to attend College for the day.

To record an absence using the Parent Portal:

  • Navigate to http://edumate.thac.nsw.edu.au
  • Log in using your Parent Portal username and password
  • Using the “At a Glance/Profile” menu on the right, select the student for whom you wish to record an absence reason from the tabs across the top
  • Click the “Attendance” tab
  • Click the text marked “Recent unexplained absences”. Click to submit “carer explanation/s” under the “Absence Notifications” title
  • Tick the date you wish to record an absence for and select a reason from the list. Enter further details if necessary in the “Details” box
  • Click the “Save and close” button or “Save and do more” to verify further absences.

To record an absence using the College App:

  • Click “Absence”
  • Select child that was absent
  • Click on “Recent unexplained absences”. Click to submit “carer explanation/s” under the “Absence Notifications” title
  • Tick the date you wish to record an absence for and select a reason from the list. Enter further details if necessary in the “Details” box
  • Click the “Save and close” button
