RECOGNISING STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT

Many forms of achievement are valued, suitably rewarded and appropriately recognised. The
College also believes that students who strive to improve on their personal best, whether it be in
sport, academic study, extra-curricular, cultural or social activities (in the College and beyond it),
should be commended, encouraged and appropriately recognised. Awards are also recorded in
The Way.

For continued excellence and effort, students may be rewarded with the following:

Students in K-6 collect Achievement Awards that accumulate throughout their time in the Junior
School. These awards may be given for demonstrating positive learning behaviours, academic
achievement or service to others, both within and outside the classroom. When 5 Awards are
collected the student gives them to the classroom teacher.

  • Five Achievement awards earns a Merit Award.
  • Five Merit Awards earns a Principal’s Award. Merit Awards may be accumulated over several
    years.
  • Five Principal’s Awards earns a College Award. Principal Awards are presented during fortnightly Friday Assembles. Principal’s Awards may be accumulated over a number of years.
  • Five Principal’s Awards earn a College Award. College Awards are presented at the termly
P-6 Assemblies and parents will receive an invitation to attend. Principal’s Awards may be
accumulated by students over the years they are in Junior School.

STUDENT RECOGNITION SCHEME

The Student Recognition Scheme (SRS) is a purposefully designed program that allows
students to seek and receive acknowledgment in a variety of areas that reflect the College’s
Vision and Mission. These areas include:

Learning
Service & Leadership

The SRS is equally driven by students and staff – in partnership together.

The SRS is discussed, managed and updated during PC groups and coordinated by the Year Advisors.

LAUNCH

This award is the starting point for all students. Early in the school year
students are to plan their SRS, nominate areas where they can engage in college life, serve the
college and/or its community, and set specific learning goals so that they are ready to launch! PC Teachers will check and sign off that this has occurred.

Fill out your Student Recognition Scheme, set some goals – be ready to Launch!

SRS SIGN OFF

Every entry in the SRS requires the relevant supervisor to sign off.

Where the entry is from an external source (service to the community) – contact details must
be provided.

The SRS also contributes to the House program via points allocated for every level of achievement reached (see the House Team for more info).

Step by Step Guide to SRS

1) Students use the ‘tick-a-box’ pages to find areas of potential opportunity for involvement and achievement. If there are additional areas not listed, please use the ‘other’ box to indicate this.

2) Record your achievements on the relevant Student Achievements Record pages in this
journal. It is important that these entries are specific and include the date of completion. It is
your responsibility to keep your journal up to date. The relevant staff member responsible for the specific achievement will add it to your Student Profile in Edumate (Student Portal) once it has been achieved.

3) Students are more than welcome to politely approach the relevant staff member if the relevant completed achievement is not on your Student profile in Edumate within a week of completion. Any achievement not on your Student Profile in Edumate will not be recognised.

4) Students are to check that your entries on the Student Achievements Record pages match up
with your Edumate record. Your Pastoral Care teacher will ask to see your journal at certain points throughout the year in order to discuss your progress.

5) Update your progress on the Record of Student Progress page in your journal. Present this
page to your Year Advisor when you believe you are eligible for an Award. Your Year Advisor will
confirm whether you are eligible for an Award or not by checking this page against your Edumate record and adding the Award on to your Student Profile in Edumate if it has been achieved. Please do not ask your Pastoral Care teacher to do this: only your Year Advisor is to be asked. You are encouraged to approach your Year Advisor to discuss this when appropriate.

6) You’ll receive your Award at the next available opportunity.

TIMEFRAME

1) The SRS is a progressive system and students are encouraged to work through
it at their own pace.

2) All students will aim to begin the stage on the Launch Award – set in Pastoral Care groups during Ready Set Connect at the beginning of the College year.

3) Students have 2 years to progress through the SRS. That is – Years 7 & 8, Years 9 & 10
and Years 11 & 12.

4) Students are encouraged to progress as far as they can within those 2 years.

5) At the end of each two year period the SRS resets and the student begins again.

6) Students could earn multiple Gold Awards within the life in Senior School.
